RIZIN Fighting Federation has announced that World Grand Prix 2016 runner-up Amir Aliakbari will return in April to face Geronimo Dos Santos in an open weight contest at a RIZIN event in Yokohama.
Aliakbari started off his career with 5 straight wins with three knockout finishes. 2016 was a very good year for the Iranian until the last day at the World Grand Prix Finals when he faced the legend Mirko “Cro Cop”. The Croatian defended well against the power of Aliakbari and pummelled him with two left hooks that floored his opponent.
The AKA Thailand monster will now look to rebound against the super-jacked Geronimo “Mondragon” Dos Santos.
The Brazilian has spend the last few years fighting in Russia for various promotions. He recently dominated and won an unanimous decision against WSOF Global Heavyweight Champion Evgeny Erokhin at MFP: Cup of Eastern Borders 2 for the vacant open weight title last Decemeber.
This is a matchup of two massive individuals with ungodly power that is really reminiscent of the heyday of Japanese MMA ten years ago.
In other marquee fights on the card, Kyoji Horiguchi and Yuki Motoya collide in a catchweight bout and Satoshi Ishii and Heath Herring swing heavy leather in an open weight affair.
RIZIN 2017 in Yokohama: Sakura will go down at the Yokohama Arena in Yokohama, Japan on 16 April.
