Invicta FC 13 took place on July 9, 2015 in Las Vegas, USA. Ayaka Hamasaki successfully challenged Herica Tiburcio for her Atomweight Championship.
The fight went a full five rounds to decision. Hamasaki landed takedown after takedown and controlled Tiburcio on the ground, even while Tiburcio’s great work from the bottom never stopped. Hamasaki’s striking, though sporadic, was right on point and snapped back Tiburcio’s head through all the rounds. Two of the judges saw the majority of the round in her favor, and Hamasaki became the new Invicta Atomweight Champion.
In the opening round, both women immediately engaged with punches and kicks, getting inside with combinations in which they tagged each other. Hamasaki landed a nice left from southpaw that snapped Tiburcio’s heab back. Ayaka continued the assault, until Tiburcio snapped ou and started landing her leg kicks.
Halfway through the round, Hamasaki came in with a big combo that landed and Tiburcio returned fire with her own. Tiburcio finally was able to get Hamasaki cornered against the cage and she rocked her with head punches and body kick, then as Hamasaki curled, she grabbed her head for the guillotine and rolled to mount. Hamasaki recovered and popped out, but Tiburcio had full mount by the end of the round.
Hamasaki opened up the second round with punches and a quick takedown. Tiburcio looked to recover guard but Hamasaki pressured her and worked to pass from half guard. Tiburcio defended very well and tried to scramble out, but Hamasaki really kept her flat on her back, and landed shots to the face.
Halfway through the round Tiburcio finally recovered guard and tied up Hamasaki’s hands, and the ref stood them. Hamasaki landed a nice right hook and Tiburcio responded with kicks. Tiburcio changed levels and went for the sacrifice throw, Hamasaki deftly kept the top position when it landed. Hamasaki tried to escape the reverse half guard, and the ref stood them up again, why? The round ends with Tiburcio getting the guillotine from the bottom.
The third round opened with Hamasaki on the offense again by getting Tiburcio against the cage. Hamasaki got the trip and landed in Guard. The ref warned Tiburcio for the third time about an illegal move, this time 12-6 elbows. Tiburcio Jumped her legs up for a sub attempt but Hamasaki stood and slammed, but Tiburcio let go, then reset looking for an arm bar.
Hamasaki stood out of it and Tiburcio also got to her feet. A few kicks by Tibrucio then Hamasaki went for the trip and got it down agains the cage. Tiburcio got a great angle and was able to use her hooks to flip Hamasaki around and took her back. To the bell, Hamasaki defended the back choke attempts.
Into the first of the two championship rounds, Kamasaki immediately went for the takedown. Tiburcio dropped to defend and Hamasaki tripod her. From inside half guard, Hamasaki elbowed Toburcio’s thigh and continued to look to pas, and final got out. Tiburcio didn’t allow her to get the mount, however, with a nice scramble from the bottom, then tied her up. Hamasaki ended up back in half guard and threw elbows at Tiburcio.
At the halfway mark, Tiburcio was able to rock out and recover guard, and the ref stood them up from it, again, why? Tiburcio kicked and Hamasaki grabbed it for another takedown. Tiburcio quickly recovered full guard this time and tried to go for the triangle again, then flipped over for an arm bar. Hamasaki powered out of the attempts and kept the pressure. Tiburcio cycled the same attempt again, and the bell calls the round.
The final round opened with Tiburcio trying to strike but Hamasaki still shot for the takedown. Hamasaki cradled Tiburcio’s head and arm closely, knowing the ground abilities of her opponent well. Hamasaki grabbed an arm for an over the head lock, in the scramble, Tiburcio could not get out and turtle, and Hamasaki kept the top, finally throwing punches.
At the middle way mark, Hamasaki tried to scramble for a crucifix and Tiburcio was able to stand out. Tiburcio looked to land kicks and punches, but Hamasaki came back with her own hard punches. A minute left and Hamasaki grabbed a kick for the takedown and put Tiburcio on her back once again. Tiburcio defended from the bottom and tried for a triangle at the bell.
