DEEP Hamamatsu Impact took place on September 13, 2014 in Hamamatsu, Japan, home of Bonsai Jiu Jitsu.
Top featherweights Kleber Koike Erbst and Katsuyoshi “7” Beppu went head to head at DEEP’s annual outing to Hamamatsu. Recently, Erbst racked up an impressive ten in a row, while Beppu dropped his last two. However, those matches were against tough opponents and the last one against Tatsunao Nagakura was the first time Beppu had ever been finished.
Bonsai JJ rep Erbst played his grappling prowess as always, content to be on his back and work for subs from there. Beppu, definitely no stranger on the canvas, worked his top game very well in the first, escaping near subs and countering with passes and stand ups. After two complete rounds of fast action, Erbst went all Nick Diaz in the third and Beppu returned fire. Erbst got the best of the battle, and from the ground he slapped on his magical triangle on in the third at 1:29.
Bonsai JJ’s Hideki “Shrek” Sekine, a champion grappler in his own right, decided to prove his hands were just as potent when balled into fists as he KOed an unfortunate Bartholomew at 3:16 in the first. Sekine made it his sixth straight win, and he remains undefeated with all but one of his fights being finishers.
