The latest installment of ROAD FC is number 009, and it’s being held in the city of Wonju, about two and a half hours east of Seoul by bus. The quiet suburban community nestled in the misty hills of South Korea’s interior isn’t the most likely of places for an MMA event, but as it’s the home of CEO Jung MoonHong, it is now the defacto epicenter for the fight sport. Flags with the fighter’s faces line the main roads, and around every corner, there seems to be a huge billboard for BEAT DOWN.
Weigh ins took place at the Hotel Inter-Burgo and went off without a hitch, despite the ever-present previous night’s jitters with some of the heavies. Only two fighters on the Young Guns card came in over, but they returned to the scale successfully well within the 3-hour retest period. Tomorrow at 4pm local time the Young Guns undercard starts, followed by Beat Down main card at 6pm local time. Check out live streaming on Sherdog. The main card features the start of the lightweight tournament with some hot match ups planned, followed by co-main events Ikuhisa Minowaman versus Yuk JunSoo and Melvin Manhoef versus Kim JaeYoung.
