UFC Fight Night 43 in Auckland, New Zealand took place on June 28, 2014. Two fighters with ties to Asia, Ian Entwistle and Daniel Hooker met in their UFC debuts.
Ian Entwistle has been training at Phuket Top Team in Thailand for this fight. He is riding a 4-fight win streak in his UFC debut.
Fellow debutant Daniel Hooker fought twice in Hong Kong’s Legend FC, going fifty-fifty with a loss to Wu Haotian and a win over Wu ChengJie, turning on a five-fight win streak.
Entwistle went on the offense early, showing the shoot was his game plan. He nailed a scissors takedown and a very quick foot lock. Hooker tried to pull free but found that his lankiness would help him.
Entwistle changed sides and transitioned to a heel hook, so Hooker sat up and tried to hold on to his own foot while throwing elbows. It was a defense tactic that turned to offense as Entwistle just wouldn’t give the foot.
Hooker went to town on the cut and Entwistle finally was forced to go and cover. With blood spurting and Entwistle not defending, referee Steven Percival stopped it at 3:34 of the first round.
