TUF China winner Zhang Lipeng will take his first fight beyond his country as he’s verbally agreed to face Chris Wade at UFC Fight Night in Boston, USA on January 18, 2015.
The event will be headlined by former title holders Ben Henderson and Eddie Alvarez facing off.
Zhang won the TUF welterweight tournament when he defeated fellow Chinese stand out Wang Sai earlier in March in Macau. The decision win wasn’t so much controversial as it was lackluster, but Zhang came back in fashion at the next Macau event. There, in August, he faced Brendan O’Reilly and went a full three rounds, only this time Zhang pulled a dominant game of back takes and ground and pound for the decisive victory.
Zhang will face ROC Lightweight Champ Chris Wade who will be making his second UFC appearance. Wade quickly choked out Cain Carrizosa in his August debut. Wade is confident that his ROC upbringing will give him the goods to ascend the ranks in the UFC. Zhang’s opportunity to prove himself worthy of being the next Chinese superstar comes out of this match.
