ADRIANO MORAES on his second ONE FC fight: “I will seize this opportunity!”

ONE Fighting Championship is headed back to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia for ONE FC 14 “War of Nations” on March 14, 2014. Young and talented Brazilian Adriano “Mikinho” Moraes will try to score his first ONE FC win against a seasoned veteran in Yasuhiro Urushitani of Japan.

ONE FC 14 will headlined by a Welterweight clash between imposing 170 pounders Brock Larson and Nobutatsu Suzuki who battle for the inaugural ONE FC World Welterweight Championship at the Stadium Negara.

Adriano Moraes started training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and MMA at the age of 16 through the help of his friends. After six years of learning from the sport, he made his pro MMA debut at 22 years old and defeated Ismael Bonfim in the first round by way of guillotine choke. Moraes is a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Brown belt under Ataider Jr. at Constrictor Team. Now he is known for his very active guard on the ground and sneaky submissions. He loves to throw leg kicks and flying knees.

Moraes is a fighter who is very dedicated to the sport. Like many other Brazilian fighters, this kid is fighting to give his family a better living, and he wants to become a world champion in the future. Brazil is a huge Football nation, but since the Gracies and other Brazilian MMA champions made huge buzz back in the 90’s, the public’s interest is now divided between football and BJJ/MMA.

Moraes grew up in this environment:

“In Brazil, a lot of people are really into football, but many also, many people are starting to learn how to fight at an early age. Brazilians are tough fighters and we are fighting everyday in our lives.”

“Mikinho” made his ONE FC debut last year at ONE FC 12 in Malaysia against durable Russian Sambo champion Yusup “Maestro” Saadulaev. He entered the cage undefeated, riding an impressive nine-fight winning streak. But the streak was snapped by Saadulaev as Moraes fell short in the judges’ scorecards who awarded the Russian the Split Decision win over the Brazilian youngster. He almost stopped Saadulaev in the second round but the Russian was saved by the bell. The last round was close as both guys showed their grappling skills but in the end, it didn’t go well for the Brazilian talent.

It was a very disappointing moment of Moraes’ career as he tasted defeat for the first time:

“I went through some personal difficulties headed to that fight but it wasn’t an excuse, the fight was good. Yusup’s a great bantamweight fighter, but after analyzing the fight replay, I believe I won the fight. But defeat is part of the game and I learned a lot from it.”

On March 14th, Moraes is going back to Malaysia to face the very experienced Japanese fighter Yasuhiro Urushitani, and his time he wants to make sure that he will leave the country with a win:

“Urushitani is an excellent fighter. He is a veteran of the sport and has fought some of the best fighters in this category around the world. This is going to be a tough fight, but I find myself ready for big battles like this. I am ready to fight the best in the world. This will be certainly a great fight.”

“Mikinho” has doubled the intensity of his preparations prior to this fight against the Shooto Bantamweight Champ Urushitani at Constrictor Team in Brazil:

“My preparation is doing very good. I am part of one of the best teams in Brazil and we do have several champions down here as well. I am doing my strength and conditioning in the City of Brasilia under Coach Rafael Felix, my Muay Thai and boxing are under Rodrigo Aguiar and Gabriel, and my Jiu Jitsu is under Rani Yayha and Ataide Jr.”

Moraes is excited to go back in Malaysia and see the supporters he won in his debut there. Moraes is not expecting an easy way to the top of the division as there are ton of great fighters in his division, but he is thankful for any opportunity to climb:

“I feel very motivated and happy to have this opportunity to fight for ONE FC. God willing my fans will see the best possible Adriano Moraes come March 14. I am training to become a better and the best fighter to give the fans some spectacle fights. I will seize this opportunity. To my fans in Kuala Lumpur, I am asking for your support and send me some positive energy for my next fight. See you guys!”
