Stand out Filipino fighting star Mark “Mugen” Striegl has signed with One Fighting Championship.
Striegl joined the Singapore-based MMA promotion officially Thursday night after One FC 23 – Warriors Way weigh ins. As the newest addition of sharks at Evolve MMA in Singapore, Striegl will continue his journey in the 135-pound division under the One FC banner and will look to be in the bidding for a run at the title next year.
“Mugen” is a superb ground fighter and has great discipline when it comes to being always in shape. Striegl’s career skyrocketed after his win over Japanese stand out Yusuke Kawanago in 2011 at Legend FC 5, now also signed to One FC. Though it was a close split decision win, he showcased that he has what it takes to be the next big thing in Philippines MMA.
Striegl has wins over the super tough Filipino-Hawaiian Harris Sarmiento and Robert Wusstig, only coming up short against Jang Yong Kim in 2013. He rebounded with his latest submission of Kaiwhare Kara-France at MIMMA 2 Grand Finals in Malaysia last October 25.
Over the past years, his brother who is also his manager, Frank Striegl, has been helping him greatly especially when it comes to marketing him as an MMA icon in the Philippines. From signing sponsorship deals with Vibram to Ecko, to having a modeling gig while he was out for a year, it was his brother who played a big role behind his success. Of course, his good-looking boy-next-door appearance hasn’t hurt his popularity either.
Striegl definitely expects tough competition as he is the newest addition to the stacked bantamweight division of One FC. It is going to be interesting to see how he matches up with some of the most talented 135-pounders in Asia.
Though his debut is yet to be announced, fans will be satisfied to see him finally back on a big stage with exciting opponents to be lined up for him in the near future.
