ONE FC 11 features Bantamweight Unification Kim vs Bibiano, Aoki at featherweight

ONE Fighting Championship has released its full fight card for “Total Domination” in Singapore on October 18, 2013. Bibiano Fernades and Kim SooChul meet to unify the Bantamweight belt, and Shinya Aoki debuts at featherweight against Cody Stevens.

Kim SooChul made a steller and stunning climb out of a pit that was his lopsided record at just 20 years old by becoming the inaugural ONE FC Bantamweight Champion by defeating top contenders Kevin Belingon and Leandro Issa. Suffering from a shoulder injury that he thought needed surgery, Kim sat out the next season. Bibiano Fernandes stepped in to fill the gap by taking the interim belt in a bout with Koetsu Okazaki. Fernandes is a legitimate and proven world-class fighter. Kim, at just 21, already has the gorgeous ONE FC belt to prove his status, and he’s as hungry as it gets to keep it.

Shinya Aoki is a name that stands alone in MMA – usually in gaudy spats and a grimace that inspires maniacal love or hate. He’s been teasing – or threatening – with talk of dropping to featherweight since his move to Evolve MMA, and with a pervious test run he proved that he’s able to do it. Now Aoki will put his money where his mouth is and make the move down against Cody Stevens. Stevens is from a wrestling base – once considered Aoki’s weakness – and he’s been training with Tiger Muay Thai and MMA to round out his skills. He will come in substantially smaller and less experienced, but MMA has had its share of success stores of Goliaths falling at the hands of Davids.

In another weight drop, Tatsuya Mizuno takes on Rafael Silva at middleweight. Mizuno is on a two fight losing streak but still takes on the toughest around – as is the norm for him. He has wins over Trevor Prangley and Melvin Manheof as well as a history of fighting whatever’s thrown his way: Sergei Kharitonov, Gegard Mousasi, and Cro Cop. Going a lighter route may prove a good road for him, but it won’t be an easy one. Silva has been fighting the beasts that come from the east – albeit Eastern Europe and Russia – so the Portuguese groundslayer is not stranger to large opponents. Silva’s only stoppages in 3 of his last 13 fights in 4 years were to Sweden’s top Tor Troeng, Russia’s supreme finisher Beslan Isaev, and UFC vet Jess Laudlin.

Also on the card, highly touted prospect Eddie Ng from Evolve MMA takes on Malaysian standout Peter Davis of Muayfit in an ongoing rivalry between the two camps. The winner will be in contention for the lightweight strap. It’s more of regional rivalries going head to head with Singapore versus Malaysia as debutantes Sherilyn Lim and Ann Osman become one of the few female matches in the ONE FC cage.
