One FC’s top featherweight contender Rob “Ruthless” Lisita gets a chance to rebound as he welcomes undefeated M-1 145-pound Champion Marat Gafurov on October 17, 2014 in Malaysia as the main event of One FC 21 – Roar of Tigers.
The bout was confirmed by the Australian fighter himself via his official Facebook account Monday morning, and subsequently officially announced by One FC.
Lisita is coming off a heart-breaking defeat against Philippines’ Eric “The Natural” Kelly at One FC 18 in Taiwan.
Lisita was tremendous on his feet, punishing Kelly with some pin-point strikes that caused the Filipino’s nose to bleed very badly. He gave all he had in the first round, pouring all of his power behind his punches. As a result, a somewhat tired Lisita came into the second round against a bloodied and slippery Kelly.
At the 3:40 mark, Kelly saw a shining moment of opportunity; he took Lisita’s back and sunk in a RNC choke. The Filipino snapped the Aussie’s four-fight win streak and took the assurance from the One FC officials of a title fight against the current featherweight champion in Jadamba Narantungalag in the near future.
Lisita’s style, toughness, and power make him a pleasurable fighter to watch. He is itching to redeem himself by a decisive win against Gafurov in Malaysia next month.
Gafurov, on the other hand, is a savage finisher with an undefeated 9-0 record and he’s the M-1 Featherweight Champion. He was signed by One FC early in 2014, and is coming off a unanimous decision victory against Lee Morrison last April that saw him successfully defending his title. Gafurov likes to throw knees in the clinch and has a high-level grappling game. This guy is very scrappy on the ground and can bring a lot of problems to Lisita come fight night.
Also Announced: Ev Ting vs Edward Kelly
Malaysian Ev Ting relocated from New Zealand back to his birth country where he know coaches and trains since joining One FC. He debuted in the promotion by knocking out Yohan Mulia Legowo. Ting faces Filipino prospect Edward “The Rock” Kelly, the brother of heralded Featherweight contender Eric Kelly. Kelly put on a rousing 3-rounder to get the win over stand out Thailand fighter Tanaphong Khunhankaew at MIMMA 1 Finals, but then dropped his One FC debut against fellow rock star prospect Herbert Burns.
Both fighters have a full arsenal of techniques. Ting’s international fight experience may give him an edge, but Kelly, as a training partner of tough brother Eric, can count those hours in the gym to his advantage.
Also Announced: Raymond Tan vs Stephen Langdown
Raymond Tan is a stalwart of the Malaysian MMA scene. His Muay Thai background and reach are his greatest advantages. However, he’s 1-2 with One FC and needs to fin a win to stay competitive in the bantamweight division. Tan will face Stephen Langdown in an attempt to do this. Langdown is well-rounded, and although he’s just at the beginning of his career, his 1-1 record means he, like Tan, has to fight harder to get to the top of the heap.
This is not going to be a simple striker versus grappler affair, as both fighters have a range of finishes to their credit. Tan has proven he can use his reach on the ground, and Langdown can stand and bang.
