According to MMAMania today, Evolve MMA coach Heath Sims has stated that Shinya Aoki will be defending his Lightweight Championship title in August.
Aoki is widely credited to be the best lightweight in Asia. He has not defended his title since winning it over a year previously in April of 2013. Since then, Aoki claimed a win at his featherweight debut, and submitted Toshikatsu Harada on IGF’s 2013 New Years Eve event.
No opponent was mentioned. According to the ONE FC website, the lightweight roster of ONE FC includes Kwon A-Sol, Caros Fodor, Eduard Folayang, Kamal Shalorus, Roger Huerta, and Vincent Latoel. Also under the banner are Lowen Tynanes who was in contract disputes with KOTC and therefore hasn’t been seen in ONE FC for quite some time, and Vuyisile Colossa who recently announced a move to the UFC. That being said, ONE FC has also brought in new blood for championship bouts before as was the case for previous Lightweight Champ Kotetsu Boku.
