Universal Reality Combat Championship (URCC) is geared up for a comeback as the first-ever mixed martial arts promotion in the Philippines will stage its 25th event on October 23, 2014 at the Mall of Asia Arena with two championship titles on the line.
The card was first released by BloodyElbow.com’s Anton Tabuena on Twitter. The event will see the promotion’s rebirth using a cage and new rules closer to international standards, as previously mentioned by CEO Alvin Aguilar.
A powerful striker and the reigning URCC Featherweight Champion Reydon “Red” Romero will defend his title as against a promotion newcomer in Malaysia’s Jian Kai Chee who is 1-3 in his last four outings.
The Yaw-Yan Kampilan standout became the URCC 145 pound Champion when he submitted Ricardo Sapno in November of 2013 in the third round at URCC 24 – Uprising. It was a back-and-forth war between two talented athletes, but after 20 plus minutes of action, Romero caught the former champion with a rear naked choke forcing him to tap. That victory over Sapno was his biggest so far in his career as he evened the score from a defeat in 2011 via second round TKO.
On the other hand, despite having an unfortunate run in his recent outings, Malaysia’s Kai Chee is a threat to Romero’s title. He is a multiple time Malaysian Muay Thai champion who likes to use his striking prowess to rout his opponents. Kai Chee will have the reach and height advantages over the Filipino Champion.
The other interesting title fight rematch is between Reysaldo “Onyok” Transmonte of Submission Sport Philippines and one time One FC vet Andrew Benibe. The two fighters met ten months ago at URCC 24 – Uprising in a nail-biting 30 minutes scrap. The fight was very close to call as both competitors gave their all. It was Transmonte’s night as the judges handed to him a razor-thin split decision victory.
Transmonte is very agile and swift with his combinations on the feet. He has power behind his punches and has developed an extraordinary ground game since training at Submission Sport. He aims for his fourth consecutive win as he faces Benibe anew and he is looking to get the win decisively this time to attest that his first victory over him was not a fluke.
Meanwhile, if there is a fighter who wants a victory so bad he can taste it, that would be Benibe. He is on a 0-3 slump since losing to Honorio Banario in 2012 at One FC 5. He looks to end the struggle when he locks horns with Transmonte for the second time.
Benibe is a powerful grappler who is at best in controlling his opponents in the clinch and on the ground. He’s got decent boxing and it would be interesting to see him add up some kicks for this rematch.
URCC 25 will also witness the return of the former URCC Light Heavyweight Champion, a fighter who fears none and packs dynamite behind his punches, as Caloy “Bad Boy” Baduri goes toe-to-toe with Balikatan MMA veteran Mark Palomar.
Another former URCC champion will make his comeback fight on October 23 as Angelito “The Saint” Manguray, a 43-year-old dentist by day and fighter by night, faces a talented grappler in Miguel Mosquera.
A pinweight bout is set between the always exciting to watch fighter Alvin Ramirez as he welcomes Davao City’s pride, a professional nurse and a team-mate of Manguray, Jessie Paul Del Valle.
