On October 23, 2014, Universal Reality Combat Championship will stage their 25th installment tagged as “Takeover” at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Manila, Philippines. The main feature will be a Featherweight title showdown between Red Romero and Jian Kai Chee.

The URCC last staged a major event in November of 2013. URCC 24 will make history in the Philippines MMA scene as it marks the promotion’s first large-scale event this year using a cage.

Featherweight Championship

Filipino fighter Red Romero makes his first title defense against Malaysian Muay Thai champion Jian Kai Chee next Saturday. Romero won his belt at URCC 24 when he challenged Champion Ricardo Sapno, and scored a third-round submission victory over him. Romero has since participated in Rebel FC’s four-man featherweight tournament in August. He faced Japan’s heavy-handed Yojiro Uchimura in the first leg of the tourney, and was eliminated from it in the first round by way of TKO.

Romero is a talented striker as he comes from a Yaw-Yan background, a martial art that originates in the Philippines. He throws a lot of kicks and heavy leather that can definitely put someone to the canvas. In terms of his ground game, Romero has three wins via submission.

Now that he is set to make his first title defense, Romero will aim to showcase some new techniques he’s acquired over the past year. But it won’t be an easy night for the champion as he will face a lanky featherweight fighter in Kai Chee.

Hailing from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Kai Chee is one of the country’s top mixed martial arts prospects. He has won numerous Muay Thai titles across Asia and is already used to high-levels of competition. Kai Chee has a height and reach advantage over his Filipino foe which he will surely take advantage of. He mixes his striking very well and has applied his Muay Thai efficiently in MMA.

Kai Chee has nothing to lose in this fight against the Champion, so expect a very aggressive but calculated game from the challenger.

Bantamweight Championship

A much-awaited rematch is set for the vacant Bantamweight title as Reysaldo Transmonte aims to prove that his win against Andrew Benibe on their first match was not a fluke. Their first meeting happened at URCC 24. It was Transmonte’s night as after three rounds of back and forth action, the judges awarded a split decision victory in favor of Transmonte.

Benibe will come out as calm as always in this rematch, while Transmonte will look for an early stoppage. Both fighters are capable of finishing at any moment. Transmonte is going to be the stronger fighter but Benibe will look to initiate his clinch game to tire Transmonte’s arms before taking the fight to the ground.

Both fighters are known for their exciting styles. This match up has Fight of the Night potential written all over it.

Caloy Baduri vs Mark Palomar

URCC 25 will also witness the return of the former URCC Light Heavyweight Champion, a fighter who fears none and packs dynamite behind his punches, as Caloy “Bad Boy” Baduri goes toe-to-toe with Balikatan MMA veteran Mark Palomar.

Baduria doesn’t need an introduction for the solid URCC fans. He was one of the most dominant fighters from the early days of the promotion. He is famous for his one punch KO wins and stand and bang way of fighting. He has solid boxing as he trains at one of the most respected boxing stables in the Philippines, Elorde Boxing/MMA.

Baduria is not ready to hang his gloves just yet. The crowd wants to see another spectacular finish from him and he surely wants to see himself wearing the URCC Light Heavyweight belt.

Angelito Manguray vs Miguel Mosquera

Another former URCC champion will make his comeback fight as Angelito “The Saint” Manguray, a 43-year-old dentist by day and fighter by night, faces a talented grappler in Miguel Mosquera.

Manguray comes from a solid karate background. His explosiveness and pin point striking accuracy are tremendous as well as his footwork. He his very elusive on his feet and likes to throw faints for setting up his speedy strikes.
Manguray looks to get back on the winning track after three straight losses against top fighters in his division, including his rear naked choke defeats against Will Chope and Honorio Banario.

Young and skillful fighter from Submission Sport Philippines in Miguel Mosquera trains alongside former URCC Middleweight Champion and one of the most decorated BJJ practitioners in the Philippines, Froilan Sarenas, and the very technical MMA vet Erwin Tagle. He is heavy-handed and has a very dangerous ground game.

It will be a classic youth versus experience match up between Manguray and Mosquera. Both guys will surely give their all come fight night as part of the much-awaited return of URCC in the spotlight.

Alvin Ramirez vs JP Del Valle

URCC 25 will also showcase Yaw Yawn Buhawi standout Alvin Ramirez as he welcomes promotional newcomer in JP Del Valle.

“Flashy” is the best word to best describe Alvin Ramirez as a fighter. As one of the most technical pinweight fighters in the URCC today, he is known for being explosive both on his feet and on the ground. Ramirez is the only guy in the URCC who made it to the last round standing and trading blows against the current URCC Pinweight Champion Rey “The Punisher” Docyogen.

On the other hand, JP Del Valle one of the top prospects coming out of Davao City. He is well versed on the ground, has solid double leg takedowns and hand speed. Taking on a top pinweight contender is a huge task for the nurse by day, fighter by night Davao native, but he is not intimidated by Ramirez’ credentials and looks to cement his first-ever URCC win in an emphatic fashion.
