ONE FC 24 will take place in Beijing, China on December 19, 2014. The promotion’s first event in the country will see Ji Xian versus Song Ya Dong as the main event, and Adrian Pang versus Vincent Latoel in the co-main event.
A four-man, one-night Featherweight Tournament will be held between four Chinese fighters: He NanNan, Li Gen, Li KaiWen and Wang YaWei.
Former Legend FC Bantamweight Champion Ji Xian earned his name “The Executioner” by slapping on guillotines left and right. As one of the first Chinese MMA fighters to exhibit a dominant grappling game, he earned a shot at the Legend FC Featherweight strap but fell short against Yusuke Kawanago, who is also now signed to ONE FC. Ji dropped to bantamweight and went on a tear, finally ending his sprawl in the promotion with the belt with an armlock over Augustin Delarmino Jr.
Ji was supposed to debut with ONE FC earlier in the year at ONE FC 16 against Thanh Vu but he missed weight. Now he’ll get the chance to perform in front of a home town crowd as he takes on the upstart Song YaDong.
Song is 4-0 coming out of China’s RUFF, where he last defeated Zhao YaFei – the guy who lost to Jens Pulver at ONE FC 6. The Tianjin K1 proponent is just 20 years old and has already exhibited a nicely well-rounded skill set of wrestling and striking. If Ji latches on, he can – and will – finish early. But scrappy Song is a talent to watch out for.
Adrian Pang, former Legend FC Lightweight Champion, is one of AustralAsia’s best and most prolific products. Many of his fights are almost legendary battles, like back to back brawls with former ROAD FC Lightweight Champ and now UFC fighter Nam Yui-Chul, and his last Legend FC title defense against current ONE FC Bantamweight Champ Jadamba Narantungalag.
Pang will face Vincent Latoel, a Dutch kick boxer who is also finding career resurgence in ONE FC. Latoel is now 2-2 in ONE FC with a KO and a submission to his credit. Latoel will come in much rangier against Pang and should look to use his longer kicking advantage to use early. But Pang won’t care. Nothing you throw at him fazes him. Pang also has a strong grappling base, even though it looks like he throws it out the window when things get heated. This should be a fun and bloody match enroute to a possible title challenger for Shinya Aoki’s belt.
He NanNan of China Top Team and Li KaiWen of Tianjin K1 are set to represent two of the China powerhouse teams when they meet in the first of the tournament semifinals. The two have already met in a grappling bout which saw Li get the win. He’s a natural 76-kger so he will come into this fight much larger and stronger than He will.
Li Gen, who has a sanda and Brazilian jiu jitsu base, will be making his MMA debut against wrestler Wang YaWei, who has one amateur win from Boracay Beatdown. Wang will need his wrestler’s weight cut know-how to back down from his last fight of 80kgs.
