RUFF has announced its next event to be RUFF Fu on June 7, 2014 in Shanghai, China. Young staples Song Yadong and Zhao Yafei earn top billing on a card stacked with Chinese and Russian talent.
Song YaDong and Zhao YaFei have booth been featured on the last three RUFF cards, Song with a three-fight win streak and Zhao with two. There will be a lot at stake for both fighters: not only are they the main event, but this bout is looked at as a contender eliminator for the Bantamweight belt, vacated by Irshaad Sayed. Every bout these very young prospects have put on were barn-burners, so a match between them should be fireworks.
As the co-main event, superstar Wang Guan is back to face yet another tough opponent: Aliyar Sarkerov fresh from M-1. Wang Guan had an uncharacteristically poor performance against his first Russian opponent Aliyar Sarkerov at RUFF 11, in which both undefeated fighters were looked at as the next big thing from Asia. He came back against Jerson Estoro in quick KO fashion, but Sarkerov should be a much stiffer challenge.
RUFF has been bringing in lots of bear wrestlers from the north in the form of Sambo champs from Russia, such as Shamil Magomedov and Marko Kosev who will face off at flyweight. It’s a game move from the China-based promotion to show that a bout absent of Chinese can and will be featured in their events. Whereas Chinese ground skills are still developing, the RUFF audience will get a treat from the lovely leg locks and other submission sundries that these sambo practitioners can bring.
Kosev, the most recent signee, was announced by his management Duello Group to have the following super-mega-uber sambo credentials:
“He is 4 time World Combat Sambo Championships (2009 Greece, 2010 Uzbekistan, 2011 Lithuania, 2013 Russia), vice European Combat Sambo Champion in 2007 and 2011, 3th place World Combat Sambo Championship in 2007 and 2008, in 2013 he was first place in World Combat Sambo Cup in Kazakhstan and Judo Black Belt Champion in Bulgaria. In his Sambo Career, he notably defeated two-time World combat Sambo Champion and mixed martial arts UFC fighter Ali Bagautinov in the finals of the 2010 World Sambo Championships on November 8, 2010 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.”
