UFC Fight Night 37, most widely referred to as the TUF China Finale, lands in Macau, China on March 1, 2014. The Featherweight final is postponed due to injury, but the Welterweight final is still a go. A full week of events ushers in the Saturday fight night.
UFC has confirmed that the Featherweight finale has been postponed. China portals and bulletin boards are claiming an injury to Yang JianPing, and that Yang wouldn’t approve of a replacement for himself in the finale. This reason is speculation until we can directly confirm from the UFC directly this evening.
Which brings up the evening’s event: the UFC kickoff party at M1 Bar in Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong, hosted by Cung Le and Octagon Girl Jessica C. The festivities start at 10pm. This event, and the others for the week which are open to the public, are listed below.
Other celebs attending fight night who will be recognizable to fans include Mark Hunt, Stefan Struve, Bob Sapp’s brother Warren, Nick Cheung from the MMA movie “Unbeatable”, and action star Phillip Ng. Check out the full press release below the schedule of events.

Hong Kong – Hong Kong award-winning actor Nick Cheung – star of the critically acclaimed Hong Kong mixed-martial arts movieUnbeatable – headlines a star-studded list of celebrities heading tothe Cotai Arena at The Venetian® Macao-Resort-Hotel in Macao on Saturday 1 March, as The Ultimate Fighting Championship® makes a triumphant return to Greater China with UFC® FIGHT NIGHTMACAO & THE ULTIMATE FIGHTER® CHINA FINALE.
Cheung, who won the 16th Shanghai International Film Fest awardand was nominated as Best Actor at the 50th Hong Kong Golden Horse Awards, for his role in Unbeatable (which was Hong Kong’s highest grossing movie of 2013), will witness for the first time real-life UFC mixed martial artists at UFC FIGHT NIGHT MACAO. The event is headlined by a clash of world-class welterweights seeking to move up in the UFC world rankings, as South Korean MMA pioneer “Stungun” Dong Hyun Kim and England’s John ‘The Hitman’ Hathaway square off in a five-round main event. Kim, who holds an impressive 18-2-1 professional MMA record, is no stranger to the screen himself, having acted as ‘Hulk’ in a Korean TV hit show Running Man Avengers and in K-pop band MYNAME’s music video for their single “Baby I’m Sorry.”
The Venetian Macao is often the site of all-star events, and whether their appearance is front-and-center as the main act, or in the audience as one of the fans, it’s a testament to Macao’s growing presence on the world entertainment stage, spurred on by the successful multi-tiered entertainment strategy of Sands China Ltd., parent company of The Venetian Macao.
Others celebrities expected to attend Saturday’s event are Taiwanese actor Chang Chen, who starred in Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon; William (Bill) Kong, the film’s producer; popular Chinese action movie star Wu Jing; Taiwanese-American Gene Yu; as well as Hong Kong personalities such as model and actress RosemaryVandenbroucke, Nissa Marion, Phillip Ng, Andy On, and Jimmy Hung, son of action movie star Sammo Hung. Film producer Maria Lo Orzel and Taiwanese model-actress Sophie Wang are also scheduled to attend.
Joining these celebrities are UFC star fighter Cung Le who memorably knocked out Rich “Ace” Franklin at UFC MACAO in 2012. Le is himself a superstar in Asia – especially in China – due to his mastery of Sanshou and his roles in several hit Hong Kong action movies. Le’s acting credits include movies such asBodyguards and Assassins starring Donnie Yen, Wong Kar Wai’sGrandmasters, Hollywood thriller The Man With the Iron Fists, andhe will be starring in a new movie A Certain Justice starring DolphLundgren and Vinny Jones, coming out next month.
Other UFC fighters also in Macao as guest fighters are heavyweights Mark Hunt and Dutch fighter Stefan Struve, the tallest fighter in the UFC at seven feet, who will be meeting fans atThe Venetian Macao on Friday and Saturday. “The high-octane action and excitement of live UFC fights around the world has always attracted celebrities and other leaders from the worlds of entertainment, sports, business and society, many of whom are among our biggest fans,” said UFC Asia Managing Director Mark Fischer. “1 March will be a historic occasion for China mixed martial arts with the crowning of the first ever The Ultimate Fighter China winner and it is fitting that top celebrities from mainland China, Hong Kong and across the world are joining global celebrities to witness this important milestone.”
Le who was the mentor coach of the groundbreaking reality TV series The Ultimate Fighter China, available to a national audience of more than one billion Chinese viewers earlier in the year via Liaoning Satellite TV and Sohu.com, also added his support: “Unlike in 2012, this time round I will be sitting Octagon-sideenjoying every single fight. Both TUF finalists have proven themselves worthy to step into the Octagon and Chinese fans should be proud of them both.”
In addition to the main card Kim vs. Hathaway, the first-ever The Ultimate Fighter winner in Asia will be crowned as Zhang Lipengtakes on Wang Sai at welterweight. Other notable bouts include a heavyweight battle between former NFL player turned pro fighter Matt Mitrione and Shawn ‘The Savage’ Jordan; Hong Kong based undefeated welterweight Alberto Mina (10-0) against American Zak Cummings, a former US Special Forces turned pro fighter with a 16-3 record; and undefeated Chinese featherweight Jumabieke Tuerxun (14-0) making his Octagon debut against fellow unbeaten Mark Eddiva (5-0), a Filipino prospect with five stoppages in five career wins.
