The inaugural event for WSOF Global Championship went down in Hainan, China at the Haikou Arena on November 21st, 2015. The main event ended with no heavyweight champion being established and a 4-man tournament that produced the finalists for the first ever lightweight strap.

The first event for the WSOF Global Championship in Hainan, China went off without a hitch except for the main event which ended in a no contest due to a eye poke subsequently leading to no heavyweight champion being crowned. Other than that, the card was exciting with most of the fights finishing in the first round via submission.

The night started off with the women in the bantamweight division. Jennifer Norris (1-0) used her grappling prowess to submit He Qun (1-1) with a tight rear-naked choke in the first round.

Next up was 145ers Chaitanya Gavali (5-2) and Vadim Ogar (5-1). Ogar was able to take Gavali’s arm home with him by locking in a slick armbar in the opening frame of the contest.

Then, it was on to the 4-man Lightweight Tournament Semifinals. Team Quest Thailand fighter Dylan Fussell (9-2) overworked Brazilian veteran Carlo Prater (31-17-1) for three rounds in a back and forth affair to get the split decision on the scorecards.

In the other tourney fight, Russian powerhouse Khusein Khaliev (14-1) took out Japanese grinder Yoshihiro Koyama (21-9-2) with a rear-naked choke in the first frame.

Fussell and Khaliev will most likely meet in Japan for the finals of the Lightweight Tournament. Whomever wins will have the lightweight strap wrapped around his waist and stamped into the WSOF history books as the first ever champ.

In the main event that was supposed to determine a heavyweight champion ended with an eye poke by Russian knockout monster Evgeny Erokhin. Jeremy May (13-8) and Evgeny Erokhin (12-4) came to fight but an accidental mishap left fans wanting more. WSOF-GC will undoubtingly reschedule this title fight however there is no word on a date.
