AT the year end DEEP Dream Impact, former DEEP Lightweight Champion, Strikeforce and UFC vet Mizuto Hirota will face Hiroyuki Takaya.
Since being released from the UFC, Hirota has seen two back to back matches go his way. With a decision over Daisuke Nakamura and his recent knock out of Masakazu Imanari, Hirota’s 2014 has been remarkable.
Former DREAM Featherweight Champion Takay’s 2014 has gone much the same way. In VTJ, he knocked out Ryogo Takahashi and Yojiro Uchimara. Hirota versus Takaya at featherweight is another Japanese MMA super match fans can look forward to enjoying on the so far stacked New Years Eve card.
DEEP versus Pancrase
Former DEEP Lightweight Champ and current Featherweight Champ Kazunori Yokota will take on the young and impressive Pancrase Featherweight Champ ISAO Kobayashi in a legend versus prospect deal. Yokota stands at nine straight victories since his drop to featherweight. ISAO’s streak is equally impressive, with a string of ten wins interrupted only by a draw early last year. Yotaka and ISAO have contrasting approaches which makes this one of the most interesting matches in Japanese MMA this year.
In the Bantamweight division, DEEP Champ Takafumi Otsuka will take on Pancrase King Shintaro Ishiwatari. Grinder versus pressure slugger is the name of the game between these two, and most likely will see them trade places on the ground trying to punch one another out.
In the three remaining bouts, DEEP’s upstart “Monkey” Shibata will face Pancrase King Kiyotaka Shimizu, DEEP stalwart Yasuaki Kishimoto will face former Pancrase title challenger Yoshiaki Takahashi, and top-shelvers Toshiaki Kitada and Taichi Nakajima will meet.
Lightweight Champion Satoru Kitaoka will face Yoshiyuki Yoshida in defense of his title. Yoshida was scheduled for his Titan FC 31 debut as a contestant for the Lightweight title against Mike Ricci. However, Ricci failed to make weight and the promotion demoted the bout to a non-title fight. Yoshida refused the fight, and the promotion quickly and controversially cut him from the roster.
The event will see twenty fights in all, starting at 3pm on December 31st, 2014. Along with the aforementioned DEEP champs, Yoshida Dojo’s Tatsunao Nagakura is also scheduled to compete.
There will also be a DEEP Jewels bout between yet to be announced female fighters, with Satoko Shinashi asking for a shot by calling out ROAD FC’s Song Ga-Yeon after her return to MMA, as did Shizuka Sugiyama after her win at DEEP Jewels 6.
Other foreign fighters are expected to be announced. The event will use the cage.
