Japan’s Hatsu Hioki and New Zealand’s Daniel Hooker have been confirmed for UFC Fight Night 66 in Adelaide, Australia on May 10, 2015.

Hioki is one of Japan’s most notable fighters today with a record of 27-8-2 and 7 fights inside the Octagon. He is a former Shooto and Sengoku Champion fighting out of top gym ALIVE.

Hioki’s performances have been exciting, but his results with the UFC have been a seesaw of wins and losses. In his last fight, against Charles Oliveira, he fell to a choke for the first time ever in his career, ironically in New Zealand where his next foe hails from.

Hooker is a veteran of SFC, and Legend FC where he’s racked up a record of 11-5 on his way to the Australian FC 6 title. With that promotion, he defended his title twice which earned him the calling to the UFC’s first card in New Zealand.

In Hooker’s last outing, his second with the UFC, the New Zealand standout saw a 6-fight losing streak snapped by a Unanimous Decision loss to Maximo Blanco in Japan. Hooker has been campaigning actively to be on the May card in Australia and today learned that he gets his wish.

This will be a big step up in competition for Hooker. Hioki’s record isn’t brilliant as of late, going only 1 win in his last 5 outings, but all to top-rankers. Hioki’s grappling is also on a different level. Hooker will need to keep Hioki on the end of his long jab if he’s to find a foothold in the featherweight division. Hioki knows he needs this win.
