UFC MACAO REPLACEMENT FOR KANG KYUNGHO

South Korean Bantamweight Kang KyungHo was set to face Alex Caceras in his debut at UFC Macao. On October 30th, we reported that he’d sustained a leg fracture in practice when his sparring partner’s elbow blocked his front kick. Kobra Kai’s Motonobu Tezuka (19-4-4) may be the last minute replacement as several announcements have indicated. Although the UFC has not made a formal announcement, he is currently listed on his profile on Sherdog to be on the UFC Macao card.

According to MMAJunkie:

Kyung Ho Kang (11-6 MMA, 0-0 UFC) is out of a bantamweight fight against Alex Caceres (7-5 MMA, 2-3 UFC) with a foot injury, which has forced the UFC to turn to a late replacement in the form of Motonobu Tezuka (19-4 MMA, 0-0 UFC). Sources close to the promotion on Friday confirmed the change to MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com), saying verbal agreements are in place for the bout.

Pancrase boss Masakazu Sakai also congratulated Tezuka on Facebook, saying that Tezuka was “going to overseas tournament” and being released by Pancrase.

ある海外の大会に手塚基伸選手の参戦が決まりそうです!パンクラスとしてその大会に送り込みます。正式調印後、近々リリースします!頑張れ手塚選手!

Tezuka took a run at the Pancrase Bantamweight championship last year against Shintaro Ishiwatari, who became the belt holder. Tezuka barreled through a win streak after that to most recently defeat Shunichi Shimizu and earn himself another go at Ishiwatari.  Apparently, this plan may be on indefinite hold.  A majority of his fights go to decision, so this should be an interesting trial by fire both in a cage and against an international opponent in Caceras. Fortunately, he won’t be making a time change to fight.
