Heralded as the rebirth of the original VTJ ten years prior, the phoenix rises from the ashes to match the best fighters in Japan in a cage.
The first announcement to come out for VTJ 2 is a bantamweight blaster of a pairing, which pits the current reigning Shooto Featherweight World Champion Kyoji Horiguchi against the current Bantamweight King of Pancrase Shintaro Ishiwatari. Kyoji is one of the hottest prospects in Japan at the moment. His heavy hands, unorthodox methods and ability to control the distance, coupled with his incredible determination, have made him a dangerous threat to any opponent and thrilling to watch. Ishiwatari, originally a Shootist, rose to prominence in the Sengoku Bantamweight Tournament. When he made the jump to Pancrase, he decisioned his way to the belt, defended it once, then made an appearance back in Shooto to trump the gateholder Caol Uno. This truly will be an all-Japan ranking match.
The second pairing sees a featherweight drop down to bantamweight, as Akiyo “Wicky” Nishiura takes on Yuta Nezu. Wicky is another heavy-handed thriller, who claims Shooto roots that led to a stint in DREAM against the toughest in the division. After 2 years and a new training regimen that included the hallowed halls of USA’s Team AlphaMale, he gets back into action in VTJ’s cage. Yuta Nezu will stand and bang with anyone in front of him, and it’s put him in the top ten as a Shooto stalwart. He hasn’t seen a cage or a submission since 2009, so this one is going to be fireworks and a match up for the record books.
Two new up and comers added to the card are Sawada Ryuto (pro debut) and Kazumasa Sugawara (1-1-1).
