Sources close to the situation have confirmed that Nam Yuichul, ROAD FC Lightweight Champion, will make his UFC debut against Kazuki Tokudome in Macau on March 1, 2014.
Nam YuiChul became the darling of Korean MMA when he put a smile on his face (finally) and shot through the ROAD FC Lightweight Tournament in 2012-13. He defended his title against his original opponent, Kume Takasuke, one of Japan’s top lightweights. Their first affair saw a three-round war that was inconclusive in the judges’ eyes and so they asked for a determining fourth, subsequently awarding the decision to Nam. In the rematch, Nam showed he was indeed the better fighter and won conclusively. His entrance to the UFC was met with speculation as ROAD FC’s CEO Jung MoonHong has been vocal about his opinions of the global promotion, but he gave his Champ free reign and off the contract.
Kazuki Tokudome is a previous contender for the King of Pancrase Lightweight strap, and launched into the UFC in its Japan show last year. He won his first bout against Cristiano Marcello, and dropped a recent decision to Norman Parke.
