Long time UFC veteran Riki Fukuda will rematch Lee Dool-Hee at ROAD FC 22 on March 21, 2015 after a No Contest was set due to low blows that rendered Lee unable to continue.
The Korea Herald first reported the news, and Asia MMA confirmed the match with the promotion.
In their first match at ROAD FC 19 last November, Fukuda and Lee swung heavy leather at each other for a round, with Fukuda landing two take downs in the process. In the second round, things got a bit ugly. Fukuda started whipping out his massive kicks, and one caught Lee stiffly on the groin.
A time stop and doctor check went the full allowance and Lee continued. But another accidental blow landed, and Lee was down for the count. The ref quickly pulled out a yellow card, but the officials cage side determined the fight to be a No Contest.
Fukuda earlier revealed to Asia MMA that he was thinking about dropping to welterweight. However, upon the original bout and upcoming rematch, he’s scrapped the idea. Fukuda now has the ROAD FC Middleweight title firmly in his sights. It was formerly held by another Japanese fighter, Shungo Oyama, who then lost it to Lee Eun-Soo, who in turn vacated it to drop to welterweight.
Lee is not so keen on the idea that Fukuda will quickly have that chance. Loosely translated, he said that since Fukuda had no problem trying to knock out his testicles, he’ll have no problem knocking him out.
ROAD FC 22 will be headlined by Lightweight Champion Kwon A-Sol’s title defense against long time rival Lee Kwang-Hee. The Korean MMA staples had their first epic battle almost 8 years ago to the day of their next match up, and a second match during the same year in which Kwon challenged for Lee’s Spirit MC Welterweight title. In both meetings, Kwon got knocked out. In fact Lee is one of only three people who have ever KOed Kwon in his almost 30 fights.
Kwon, meanwhile, has gone through military service and a reinvention of himself, which culminated in him taking the vacant Lightweight title in surprisingly dominant fashion over division kingpin Kume Takasuke.
