ROAD FC 009: LIVE ON SHERDOG

ROAD FC is holding their 9th event, and simultaneously its 5th Young Guns undercard, this weekend on September 15th in Wonju, South Korea.  This groundbreaking event will see two international superstars of MMA, Ikuhisa “Minowaman” and Melvin Manhoef, make their debuts in the Korean promotion and face two Korean opponents, Yuk Jinsu and Kim JaeYoung  respectively.  These Koreans are not afraid to throw down.  And Beat Down.  It’s also the start of the Lightweight tournament – arguably the most stacked division in ROAD FC.  But even though it’s stacked, there are a couple of Japanese fighters making their way into the tournament and present a force to be reckoned with.

Nam “The Bulldozer” YuiChul will take on the first of the Japanese fighters,  Masahiro Toryu. Nam’s wrestling base is incredibly strong and he’s always willing to bang.  Toryu himself is a college wrestling champion and a Pancrase warhorse since 2005. Both guys are incredibly though, and this could easily go the distance.  Nam’s teammate from Team Posse Kim “Amrbar” ChangHyun meets the second Japanese in the tournament, Takasuke Kume. “Armbar” has the goods from stand up to ground skills, and so does his Shootist opponent: at 13-1 and being Hatsu Hioki‘s training partner he’s an uber prospect hungry for a title shot.

The third semifinal match is Kim SeokMo versus Vuyisile Colossa. SeokMo’s only seen one fight end by decision, and that was against Gregor Gracie in ONE FC. His never-say-die style gets tested against Colossa, a Muay Thai fighter known world wild, who changed his mindset and has been training BJJ full-on. This fight likely won’t get out of the first round.  The final contest is between Lee YongJae and Kim WonGi. Lee has back to back victories in ROAD FC this year and will face dark horse Kim who bounced back from a six year competitive layoff coming off a win also in ROAD FC.

Another huge breakthrough for ROAD FC – Live Streaming!  The event will be a ‘dirty’ stream on Sherdog, which means the audience will be watching what gets broacast within Korea and therefore will be in Korean commentary.  That won’t matter to non-Korean speaking people, though, because these guys have already been fighting on a live broadcast within their own country, so they bring all the action when they enter the cage.  For information on how to watch the stream, visit Sherdog or the ROAD FC instruction page here.

MMA-in-Asia will also be live and on the ground giving you updates on this page, Facebook, and Twitter, from the weigh ins to the after party.  Fighting!
