ROAD FC 16 will take place on July 26, 2014 in Gumi, South Korea. Song Min-Jong and Jo Nam-Jin will contest for the Flyweight title, and Riki Fukuda returns against Yoon Dong-Sik.
ROAD FC first announced Riki Fukuda’s return quickly after his fight on ROAD FC 15 was out due to his opponent’s injury. And it was to be with Yoon Don-Sik, a celebrated PRIDE fighter who just started his return to MMA in 2013. This high-profile match should bring some hard-hitting action, whether it’s from fists or hitting the floor.
The inaugural Flyweight Championship is set between two rising stars in Asian MMA, former Bantamweight title contestant Song “Running Man” Min-Jong, and journeyman Jo Nam-Jin, newly restyled as “Drunken Monkey”. At just 22 and 23 years old respectively, these fighters have already faced some of the best competition that Asia has to offer. Their records on paper are shadows of their accomplishments.
A match up between Song and Jo is a very good litmus test of the future of Korean MMA. Also, it’s between two of the highest-performing teams in Korea, Team MAX and Team MAD, so the pressure cooker will be on.
