ROAD FC 23 takes place on May 2, 2015 in Seoul, South Korea. Bantamweight Champ Lee Yun-Jun and challenger Mun Je-Hoon both made weight.
Of the whopping 14 fights scheduled for the night, only one fighter was not able to make weight. Lee Chang-Seob, notable as UFC fighter Choi Doo-Ho’s coach, couldn’t make an 84 kg catchweight within the allowed time. The bout with Tatsujin Dojo’s Karim Bouraasassi was originally set at 80 kgs. Even with the huge difference, Bouraasassi agreed to take the fight.
Choi Mu-Bae looked fit and calm against Lucas Tani, and outweighed him by about 7 kgs. Even though Choi’s been out of the game for 2 years, Tani’s going to need every ounce of his jiujitsu – and some damn speedy feet – to keep out of the range of the Heavy Tank from Busan.
Promising female fighter Kim Ji-Yeon will take on Muay Thai champ Hatice Ozyurt who has recently transitioned into MMA and has been grappling under the Tatsujin Dojo team. Their styles totally clash so this should be interesting. Kim’s shown she can handle about anything thrown at her.
A second female fight sees Emi Fujino become the next Japanese stand out to wade over to the shores of Korea. Her original opponent, Song Hyo-Kyung suffered a possible career-ending leg injury, so a quick replacement was found in a young sanda national team fighter Park Jeong-Eun with three amateur MMA wins under her belt. It’s a huge fight for Park, but the sparse women’s divisions in Asia have seen their share of mismatches on paper that still turn out to be fun scraps.
Mongolian transplant Nandinerdene and Crying Fist winner Kim Seung-Yeon will round out the card in what should be an aggressive and quick bout.
