Filipino UFC Featherweight fighter Mark Eddiva has withdrawn from his scheduled bout against Mike De La Torre on November 8, 2014 at UFC Fight Night – Rockhold vs. Bisping in Sydney, Australia. The news was announced by Eddiva through his personal Facebook account.
Eddiva then told MMA-in-ASIA that his camp decided to withdraw him from the fight due to his ongoing recovery from lingering throat and elbow injuries. Eddiva and his management agreed that it would not be wise to risk fighting De La Torre with these injuries still an issue in his condition.
The Filipino made his Octagon debut last March at UFC FN – Kim vs. Hathaway in Macau against the then undefeated Chinese prospect Jumabieke Tuerxun.
Eddiva looked spectacular against Tuerxun as he dominated the fight from the first until the third round. The win over Tuerxun was his first fight in three years.
He then took on Edimilson Souza couple of months later in Brazil for UFC FN – Miocic vs. Maldonado. Although Eddiva did not get the ‘W’ in that fight, he and Souza took home a whopping $50,000 bonus each for ‘Fight of the Night’ honors in what was a spectacular performance from both.
Eddiva’s fans will likely have to wait until early next year before they get to see Eddivaback in action inside the Octagon, fully recovered and ready for war.
