It came out of nowhere, but Rocky Lee is finally making his UFC debut following his TUF China experience. He will face France’s Taylor ‘Double Vision’ Lapilus at UFC Fight Night Krakaw on April 11, 2015.
Lee was an elite grappler selected from the initial bunch of applicants for UFC’s first The Ultimate Fighter: China reality show. Coach Ao Hailin picked him second behind China’s superstar Yang Jianping for the featherweight group on Team Flying Lions.
Rocky didn’t make many waves during TUF. In fact his fight didn’t come until Episode 9 but it was the first featherweight match up announced. Rocky Lee easily defeated He Jianwei with an arm bar in the first round.
In the final episode, Rocky was pit against eventual winner Ning Guangyou who just happened to have Korean Zombie Jung Chan-Sung giving him coaching before the bout. Who knows where the real magic came from, but in the second round, Ning was able to knock Lee out – and out of the TUF Finale.
The stand out grappler only has a pro record of 3-0 which he’ll be putting on the line against Lapilus who is 8-1 in his home country. Lapilus was asked to make his debut by challenging Dennis Siver in Sweden, but the sanctioning body in that country denied the match up due to Lapilus’ inexperience compared to his opponent.
Mirko Filipovic will rematch Gabriel Gonzaga in the five round heavyweight headline event, and Poland’s stand out Jan Blachowicz will face Jimi Manuwa.
