VENUM & MMA-IN-ASIA TO SPONSOR BANKOK OPEN GRAPPLING CHALLENGE

VENUM Fight Gear and MMA-in-Asia.com are pleased to announce sponsorship of the no gi grappling winners at this year’s 2012 Bangkok Open BJJ/Grappling Championship taking place this Saturday and Sunday, October 27-8.

The forerunner of MMA-in-Asia.com is BJJ-Asia.com, produced by Luke Chaya, which was the only site dedicated to all things BJJ and MMA in Southeast Asia for several years. The Thailand grappling community exploded, SEABJJ was born, and the Thailand Open tournament became one of the most well-organized and attended competitions in SE Asia, including the broader Pan-Asian scope outside of Japan. MMA-in-Asia.com took the reins of the MMA scene reporting, yet still continued to work hand-in-hand with BJJ-Asia.com. At the 2011 Thailand Open, MMA-in-Asia.com covered the event live, from regular results from every division, to photos which can be seen in the full Facebook album here.

The Bangkok-based tournaments have regularly seen competitors from MMA hone their grappling skills and put on some great fights. Last year, among the competitors who fight MMA were Eddie Ng, Cris Haja, Andy Wang, Rodrigo Caporal, and Andrew Leone. The no gi day brought some surprising visitors from a camp that made the news in today’s announcement of DREAM‘s New Years Eve show: two Golden Glory fighters participated in the advanced open tournament. Sergei Kharitonov and John Olav Einemo came up from their camp in Pattaya to compete. By the end of the day, the entire crowd of competitors and audience alike encircled the mats to see these guys go at it.

MMA-in-Asia.com is excited to be a part of this year’s Bangkok Open, as is VENUM, a premier fight gear brand who heavily sponsors both the MMA and BJJ communities and is aggressively expanding in Asia.
